Admissions

All students with verified disabilities must provide to the Section 504 coordinator (417/269-3598) verification of and required accommodations for their disability upon admission to the college. Students who suspect they might have a disability should contact the Section 504 coordinator /Director of Student Services for assistance. The college will allow for implementation of reasonable and appropriate accommodations necessary for participation in the college's programs.


The Admissions Office is the gateway to accessing Cox College programs. Early application to Cox College is encouraged. Applicants will be notified of their admission status after all documentation required for admission has been received. For more information, please contact:

Cox College General Admissions

  • Submit a complete Cox College application
  • Submit a non-refundable application fee of $45 application
  • Submit an official copy of your high school transcript or GED certificate
  • Submit official transcripts from all accredited post-secondary institutions attended. (If you have earned less than 24 college credits, you must also submit your official high school transcript or GED certificate.)

First Time Students

  • Official high school transcript or official G.E.D. certificate
  •  High school cumulative G.P.A. of 2.000 or higher
  • Composite ACT or 18 or SAT combined score of 860 or higher*
    * If you have taken the ACT/SAT over five years ago or have never taken the ACT/SAT you will be required to take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) examination. Contact Admissions to schedule and to find out the times it is offered.

Transfer Students

  • Must have passed 12 college hours
  • Have a college cumulative G.P.A. or 2.000 or higher

Non-degree seeking students

  • Submit a complete Cox College special application
  • Submit a non-refundable application fee of $15 application
    *This application is for those students not seeking a degree from Cox College but would like to take a class through the College.

Admission to the college does not assure admission into college programs. Program admission refers to enrollment in the discipline-specific courses of each program offered at Cox College.


Health Sciences Program Admissions

  • Submission of Cox College application with $45 application fee
  • Official copies of transcripts from high school (or GED) and post-secondary institutions attended
  • Complete in pre-admission testing, including grammar proficiency and a keyboarding exam (for Medical Transcription only)
  • Prior to beginning the program the following must be completed:
    • Payment of $125 program application fee
    • Negative drug screen
    • Clean criminal background check

Nursing Program Admissions

To be considered for admission into your chosen program of study, a completed Application for Admission into Nursing Degree Programs must be submitted to the Admissions Office on or before the admission deadline dates. Only applicants admitted to the college will be considered for admission into a program of study. All admissions and program specific selection criteria must be met prior to submission of this application.

Application deadlines

Spring:  August 15 (ASN and BSN Accelerated)
Fall:  January 15 (ASN and BSN Entry and EDO)

Applications

The following requirements must be completed before beginning courses in any of the nursing programs:

  • Initiation of Hepatitis B immunization series
  • TB skin test within six months of program entry
  • Current measles (rubeola), mumps, and rubella immunization status
  • Negative drug screen
  • Clean criminal background check
  • Completion of health form (provided by the Enrollment Assistant)
  • Completion of the American Heart Association (AHA) for Healthcare Provider course or equivalent prior to enrollment.

New students admitted to any nursing track will be required to attend a Department of Nursing orientation. Information about date, time and place of orientation will be included in the new student's acceptance letter.

American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider Course requirement
Prior to enrollment in nursing courses, the student must have completed the AHA for Healthcare Provider course. It is the responsibility of the student enrolled at Cox College to maintain certification in lifesaving techniques at the health care provider level, as designated by the American Heart Association. The AHA for Healthcare Provider course is offered at Cox College in August and January, prior to the beginning of each semester. Contact the Admissions for information.
